NEWS | Reece Lyne and Luke Briscoe announce retirements from rugby league

Dons duo Reece Lyne and Luke Briscoe have both announced their retirements from rugby league, bringing an end to two stellar careers across both the domestic and international game, following the conclusion of the 2026 Betfred Championship play-offs.

Both players joined the Dons in the winter of 2023 following the club's promotion and return to the second tier and have since played a vital role in the club's subsequent progression that sees the pair leave DN4 with a fourth-place finish.

Having first turned out for the Dons in the 2024 season, Lyne has since turned out 58 times in blue and yellow and found the try line 25 times, scoring 100 points in the process.
On the wing, Briscoe has taken to the field in the club's colours 53 times and scored 20 tries, including a superb effort in the memorable win over Toulouse Olympique XIII underneath the lights of the Club Doncaster Sports Village on March 29, 2025.
Both players remain available for selection to add to their personal record throughout the upcoming play-offs.
On the duo's retirements, club captain Cory Aston said: "Brisc has had an incredible career and deserves every bit of recognition he receives.
"He’s been a fantastic player and the ultimate competitor out on the field. He will be massively missed by the group, and we thank him not just for being a champion player but most of all been a champion fella.
"Reece has had an unbelievable career. Playing consistently at the top level across Super League and international rugby league for as long as he has shows that.
"His leadership for the group is massive, and when he speaks people listen. He has been someone I look up to and turn to, as I’m sure he has been for so many of the boys.
"On behalf of all the players, it’s been a pleasure.
"They should be incredibly proud of their time with this club, they came to Doncaster as a newly promoted championship team, they finish with us being a top 4 club. They are every bit responsible for that.
"On behalf of all the boys, we wish them all best for the future."
Dons chief executive officer, Carl Hall added: "We want to thank them both. They’ve been great for us from the minute they walked through the door, they've both got lovely families, and I wish them all the best going forward.
"They will always be welcome down at the Dons."
